To use either service, customers download and install the app on their phones where cell signals are available. The app is used to call for an immediate ride or schedule one for the future, and to determine whether a driver is in the area.

How to pay: Pay Pal, credit or debit cards only, no cash is accepted. Lyft passengers can tip in-app; on Uber, cash tips only until late July, when in-app tip options will become available. Discount coupons for first-time riders are available.
