Is Rochester too eager to welcome Uber and Lyft?

Mayoral candidate Rachel Barnhart filed ethics complaints against current and former city officials relating to a recent Uber event at the Rochester City Hall.

Eager to create jobs and add a modern mode of transportation, area leaders may be too willing to embrace some of the largest ride-hailing companies dogged by several questionable incidents.

City Mayor Lovely Warren and County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo have long supported ride-hailing, it only took state leaders months to figure out a way to bring them to upstate amid broad public support .

With ride-hailing nearly here — it is expected to commence on June 29, thanks to new legislation — it is being welcomed with all sorts of open arms.

What are we really welcoming? Uber is a company with a checkered past.
