Airbnb offers business, home owners another rental option

A local business owner is using a peer-to-peer rental site to handle business in New York while several area residents are using the same site to book rooms within their homes and businesses.

Started in 2008 by industrial designers Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia, Airbnb has become something of a trailblazer in terms of peer-to-peer room or home rentals designed to suit individual budgets.

Like many successes, the idea for Airbnb’s began when Gebbia and Chesky found themselves unable to afford their own apartment and needed a way make ends meet. By renting out their loft to others who couldn’t find a hotel, Gebbia and Chesky tapped into a needed market.They were later joined by architect Nathan Blecharczyk and the three set up air beds for guests and even cooked their meals ate make them feel more welcomed.

Flash forward nearly a decade and Airbnb is now, according to techboomers.com , available in over 190 countries. They are in over 34,000 cities worldwide.
