Uber driver wounded in shooting in Old East Dallas, near Lakewood

An Uber driver was wounded when a gunman opened fire on a car early Tuesday on the edge of Old East Dallas, southeast of Lakewood Country Club.

Officers arrived about 1 a.m. in the 100 block of South Brookside Drive, near Abrams Road, and found the Uber driver’s vehicle with 10 to 15 bullet holes in its right front passenger door and window.

The gunman, who was taken into custody, told police he’d seen someone in the Uber vehicle before he started firing. Investigators were looking into whether the gunman is a former soldier who may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Uber driver, whose name was not released, was shot once in the abdomen and was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported . The gunman reportedly was providing the victim first aid when police arrived. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The gunman’s name also has not been released.
