Postmates joins the booze-on-demand wars

Need a drink and need it now? If you can wait 25 minutes, Miami’s on-demand delivery wars are serving up yet another option for you.

Postmates, the on-demand delivery service of just about anything that has been serving the Miami market for about two years, is rolling out its DRINKS service in the area on Thursday. That means Postmates’ app users can now get wine, beer and spirits for their impromptu summer party, in addition to the barbecue and inflatable pool rafts.

The liquor orders will be sourced from local liquor store partners, and Postmates promises delivery in 25 minutes or less (no small feat in Miami traffic). The service will cover Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Brickell and downtown Miami, Midtown, Wynwood, Surfside, North Miami, Miami Beach and Bal Harbour. Deliveries over $30 are free (otherwise $2.99), and all deliveries are free for the first month. Upon delivery, customers will need to show their ID.

There is no shortage of alcohol delivery services, including from Instacart , Shipt , Drizly and Minibar. There’s been consolidation too: Klink, a homegrown alcohol-delivery service, recently announced that it has been acquired by Delivery.com.
