What VW is up to with Moia

VW plays only a subordinate role in modern vehicle services via app. This is to change: In the interview Ole Harms explains how he wants to build a mobility service provider with the new brand Moia.

The auto sector has committed itself to change. Electric drives, self-propelled cars, increasing networking and urbanization are shaking with the business models. Especially in large cities, fewer and fewer people want to have their own car – although they like to drive one. The automakers do not want to leave this field to new companies like Uber and Lyft – BMW has DriveNow, Daimler Car2Go and MyTaxi.

Volkswagen , on the other hand, plays only a subordinate role in modern vehicle services via an app. This is to change: at the end of 2016, the Wolfsburg-based subsidiary Moia was founded as the 13th company group. Moia is neither a car maker nor a pure car-sharing provider. By 2025, one of the world’s leading mobility providers will be created.
